Everyone of us who experienced the joy of turning 16, passing the driving test and finally feeling the freedom of the open road, also remembers the preaching words of wisdom from parents reminding us to keep two hands on the wheel, keep your eyes on the road and keep your vehicle in the proper lane of travel.

Sometimes, years of adhering to this advice makes us feel invincible and think that nothing bad could ever happen.  However, situations arise where we are unfortunate enough to encounter another driver who has let their guard down for a split second.  No one person is immune from the fact that unfortunate and tragic auto accidents can happen to anyone at any time.

This was the case in Summit Township, Butler County on July 31st at 10 pm, when a vehicle driven by Cassie Woods of Butler allegedly crossed over the center line on Bonniebrook Road causing a collision with a vehicle driven by Ryan Pettit.  Both Woods and Pettit suffered serious injuries and were flown from the scene to hospitals in Pittsburgh.

What was most likely a normal night for two young adults, enjoying freedom and health, has likely turned into a long road to recovery, not just physically, but emotionally and financially.
