Pennsylvania drivers: Watch out for drunk drivers this weekend

Despite the fact that the Steelers narrowly missed their shot at playing in the Super Bowl this year, football fans across Pennsylvania will still be tuning in to the big game this weekend.

Whether you are heading out to a Super Bowl party, watching for the commercials at home with your family or ignoring the game altogether, you should be aware of the fact that this weekend can be particularly dangerous on the roads in and around Pittsburgh. This is because there is typically a spike in drunk driving accidents recorded on Super Bowl weekends.

As noted in this Forbes article, police departments across the U.S. ramp up enforcement efforts to crack down on drunk drivers during Super Bowl weekend because it is one of the many different weekends when more people are out partying and drinking.

However, because it is not a holiday or a long weekend, people might be more inclined to drive home after the game instead of staying with friends or calling a cab.

This can be especially true for people who have been drinking but don't feel drunk. They may not take seriously the fact that being barely over the legal limit is still over the limit a person can drive safely.

In the unfortunate event that you or a loved one is hurt or killed in an accident caused by one of these drivers, you must remember that you can take legal action against that driver.

While he or she will likely face criminal charges in connection to their drunk driving, that might not do much good for you and the damages you suffer. This is why many victims of DUI accidents and their families pursue civil charges as well. Doing so can result in the award of compensation that can cover medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, and other damages caused by a drunk driver.
