Cargo can be catastrophic in the event of a truck crash

Commercial-sized vehicles pose a serious threat to others if they are involved in a collision. Their size and weight makes them capable of doing massive amounts of damage, even in low-speed crashes with indirect contact.

The cargo these trucks transport can also be a danger to others in the event of a crash. Recently, for instance, cargo contributed to a deadly accident in another state when it exploded after a collision.

According to reports, the accident is still under investigation. However, what we do know is that a chain of accidents led to three fatalities. We also know that the crash occurred after one tractor trailer crashed into two cars, which then crashed into a second truck and got stuck underneath.

The second truck was hauling seed and fertilizer. The cargo exploded after the truck caught fire.

In situations when cargo catches on fire or explodes, injuries often go from bad to worse. In this case, it may have been possible for the car passengers to escape with non-fatal injuries, but the cars were still stuck under the truck when the cargo exploded. In similar accidents, bystanders and other drivers in the area who may have not even been involved in the accident can still be injured by the fire, falling debris and other hazardous conditions.

Truckers and truck companies are expected to take numerous precautions when it comes to loading, identifying and securing hazardous cargo. These precautions are intended to make the trucker and others safer in the event of a crash. However, if these measures fail or are never taken in the first place, accident victims can pay the price.

If you or a loved one has been injured in an accident involving a tractor trailer hauling dangerous cargo, then you would be wise to examine your legal options to pursue compensation. There is the potential for massive financial damage in the wake of these situations, and you should not have to pay the price for someone else's negligence or carelessness.
